23 years are completed
from the assassination
of the Greek Cypriot,
Tassos Isaac,
in Derynia
On 11/8/2019, 23 years are completed from the
assassination of the Greek Cypriot, Tassos Isaac, in Derynia Roadblock, by the
Turkish conquerors. 7000 motorcyclists, including Tassos Isaac, decided to
contest against the turkish occupation by travelling from Hamburg to Cyprus and
then crossing the Green Line to reach Kyrenia.
But, the then government of the Republic of Cyprus,
under the presidency of Glafkos Clerides, decided to cancel the march of the
7000 motorcyclists the day the motorcyclists would cross the Green Line to
reach Kyrenia. Because of this cancellation, the motorcyclists decided to
protest at the Roadblock of Derynia. The Turks awaited the motorcyclists there
and attacked them. As a result, a lot of unarmed motorcyclists were injured and
Tassos Isaac was brutally murdered by the conquerors. The government's decision
to cancel the march was fatal. Three days later, another brave Greek, Solomos
Solomou, was shot dead by the conquerors, at his attempt to remove the
"flag of shame" off its flagpole.
He was shot by a Turk three times; in the mouth, in
the neck and in the stomach. Nearly two decades after the incident, the Cyprus
government not only did they fail to hold the killers liable and punish them,
but also proceeded to the opening of the barricades, between free Cyprus and
occupied Cyprus, so that the Greeks can now cross the Green line and go to the
occupied areas. Meanwhile, the retreats of the negotiation team, in the
negotiation talks, regarding the "Cyprus problem", are ongoing and an
agreement, which will set the entire island under the Turkish control, will be
soon reached.
The European Solidarity Front for Cyprus honours the
two heroic martyrs' memory with acts and not just words. It fights daily to
vindicate the struggle for a free Greek Cyprus, without barricades, conquerors,
refugees, enclaved and settlers.
This struggle will be over only when justice is
finally served.
