Ceramic vase of 5,000 years
with Greek meander,
but in China...!
A beautiful, large, ceramic vase of 3000-2000 BC. decorated with the
Greek meander - greek keys!
These pots (33 x 38.1 cm in size) were found in various archaeological
sites across the Yellow River Basin (in the modern province of Gansu in
northwest China, up to Henan, Province in central China). They are considered
the creation of a culture, called Yangshao.
Painted patterns on the surface demonstrate a remarkably premature use
of fine brush work. This vessel would serve as hydria (> urn) for dead
burial / incineration. A limited number of items have been found from this
tradition, this region. It appears to have been used primarily for children,
and sometimes for adults.
We could learn more of these vases, about them and their tradition, as
well as about their relationship with ancient Greece, the ancient China-Greece
link, if (and) these objects were not dragged as prostitutes, at the auctions'
world...
